Prepurchase Consultation Requests

We are happy to accentuate your prepurchase examination in whatever capacity you deem necessary. The more information we receive, the better assistance we will be able to provide. Please provide us as many of the following items as possible:

From the POTENTIAL BUYER:

  • A Complete History of the horse. Include the horse's signalment, vaccination and deworming records, dental history, current trimming/ shoeing specifications, and any previous illness, lameness, or surgery.

  • Any Observations, Questions, Concerns, or "Red Flags" that developed pursuant to seeing and/or riding the horse.

  • Photographs and Videotape Footage:

    • With the horse standing square on a level surface: a) Front views of both front feet (together in the same photo, b) Front views of both front legs (together in the same photo), c) Lateral (from the side) views of each front and each back foot individually (4 photos total), d) Side view of the entire horse (from both right and left sides), e) Rear view of both back legs (together in the same photo).

    • With the horse moving on a hard level (e.g. asphalt) surface: a) Walking in hand on a loose lead (straight line), b) Trotting in hand on a loose lead (straight line).

    • With the horse on a soft level (e.g. arena) surface: a) Lunging in both directions at a walk, trot, and canter, b) Under saddle at all gaits (if applicable).

  • Prepurchase Report. Please include results from any blood work, diagnostic images, additional or separate videotape footage, and/or other pertinent information provided by the examining veterinarian.

From the EXAMINING VETERINARIAN:

  • Minimal Radiographic Study: a) Navicular Series on both front feet, b) Dorsopalmar, lateral, and obliqued views of both thoracic fetlocks, c) Lateral views of each pelvic fetlock, d) Dorsoplantar, lateral, and obliqued views of both tarsi (hocks), e) Lateral view of each stifle.

  • Any other diagnostic imaging studies acquired during prepurchase examination.

  • The veterinarian's clinical impression of the horse following evaluation.
